CHURCH RECORDING
VOLUNTEERS
EVENTS
What is Church recording? It is making comprehensive records of the contents of churches - memorials, metalwork, woodwork, books and documents, paintings, textiles, etc.It is carried out in our area by volunteers from Chalfont Fine Arts and two other local NADFAS societies.

Currently we are working on St Mary Hawridge having completed St Lawrence Cholesbury in early 2009 . Both small village churches and now part of a combined benefice.
These are two of a series of local churches built, rebuilt or renovated in the mid 19th century which we have tackled. Each has their own unique and interesting facets.

In early 2005 we started work at St Mary Magdalene, Flaunden. As a building this is not an exciting Church but it has a fascinating history. It was built in 1837 and was the first Church ever designed by George Gilbert Scott.
In 2006 we started recording St Mary Magdalene, Latimer This is another of Gilbert Scott's church rebuilds but done 30 years later than Flaunden and is typical of his style.

There is always a need for more volunteers so no matter what your specific interest why not find out more by asking at the Society’s monthly lecture meetings or by contacting me on 01494 725831.
